The song explores an element of the human condition: the burning desire that resides in most (if not all) people to discover the unknown and all the hidden potential that lies outside of one's place of comfort -- to "drop a line into the ocean" as it were. It is a song that reflects both the greatness and adversity that comes with being human: on the one hand, curiosity leads to perpetual dissatisfaction, while on the other, this curiosity (and subsequent dissatisfaction) powers the continuous process of human progress.
